My mom has free ear lobes, hair on her fingers, no widows peak, curly hair, a smooth chin, and no dimples. My dad has free ear lobes, hair on his fingers, no widows peak, straight hair, a smooth chin, and no dimples. My parents only have one trait that is different, curly and straight hair. All of their other traits they have in common and are the same, free ear lobes, hair on fingers, no widows peak, a smooth chin, and no smile dimples. They both have free ear lobes, which is dominant. Although I could have had attached ear lobes if they each carried a recessive gene, I received the dominant gene, free ear lobes. Same goes for dominant hair on fingers. Both my mom and dad have hair on their fingers and I also do even though there was a 0 to 25 percent chance of me not getting hair on my fingers (or a 75-100% chance of receiving hair on my fingers). My mom and dad both have the recessive trait of no widows peak so I also did not receive one. My dad has straight hair which is recessive, while my mom had curly hair which is dominant, so I had to get my curly hair from my mom. Both of my parents have a smooth chin which is also recessive, forcing me to receive a smooth chin too. My mom and dad also have no dimples which is recessive, so I had to have do dimples.

My First Blog

I really enjoyed learning about heredity and genetics. I love anatomy and find genetics very interesting. I learned the chances/probability of receiving and inheriting the different alleles and genes from your parents. I also learned about the dominant, recessicve, and codominant alleles. I want to go into the medical field and health services once I am older, so I found this helpful.
